Position Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineer at a growth-oriented, family company. We are accepting applications at our three pole-producing plants in Burlington, ON; Northport, AL; and Atchison, KS. In this role you will be responsible for the planning, design, development, and management of the manufacture of concrete poles used in infrastructure systems. Responsibilities

  • Handling engineered design work for concrete, steel, and aluminum poles.
  • Design services to support concrete pole projects such as concrete pole design, foundation design, ornamental pole and lighting arm design, general wind loading design.
  • Designing poles around minimum transverse loading, cracking moments, ground line moments, and deflection.
  • Creating manufacturing detail drawings (cage design, spools, endplates, production equipment, etc.).
  • Performing structural calculations and testing for new and existing products, as well as CSA testing and approvals.
  • ASTM, DOT, and CSA testing and approvals; ensure compliance with numerous ASTM, DOT, and CSA standards.
  • Ensuring optimum concrete mixes are used and modifying when required.
  • Work with sales department to assist with technical site visits and produce drawings by established deadlines.
  • Working on continuous improvement of existing products and procedures.
  • Manage, direct, and train Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
  • Assisting internal and external parties with technical information, problem solving, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Professional engineering designation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards of practice (e.g. ANSI, etc.) and proficiency with software applications such as AutoCAD and other standard design software.
  • Positive attitude, with a teamwork mentality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Professional, approachable, and self-motivated, with high standards for exceptional work.
  • Able to develop positive working relationships with others and contribute to a people-first culture.
  • Able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment, with effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience is an asset.
